KENNY HEBERT: In the storied history of University of Houston football, one name stands out for his exceptional scoring prowess: Kenny Hebert. As a receiver and kicker, Hebert led the NCAA in scoring in 1966, showcasing his remarkable versatility and talent on the field.
Kenneth Daniel Hebert, born on September 9, 1944, played for the Houston Cougars football team from 1965 to 1967. During the 1966 season, Hebert was nothing short of spectacular. He caught 38 passes for 800 yards, averaging 21 yards per catch, and 11 touchdowns. He also kicked 41 points after touchdowns and two field goals, amassing a total of 113 points to lead the NCAA major colleges in scoring.
Hebert’s incredible contributions were critical to the success of the Cougars. His reliable receiving skills and accurate kicking made him a scoring sensation, setting records and earning accolades throughout the season. As a receiver and a kicker, Herbert was both a valuable asset to the team and a formidable opponent for competitors.
Following his collegiate success, the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Hebert in the third round of the 1968 NFL Draft. Herbert appeared in three games for the Steelers during the 1968 NFL season, showcasing his talents at the professional level. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the University of Houston, Hebert was inducted into the University of Houston Hall of Honor in 1977.
