The Battle of Walker’s Creek on June 8, 1844, was perhaps the first major encounter by the Texas Rangers with Comanche Indians. The Texas Rangers were outnumbered five to one. Yet, the Texas Rangers use of the Paterson Colt Model, a .36-caliber five-shot revolving pistol with a trigger that disappeared into the frame, proved decisive. Todd Beamer (1968-2001) - Hero/Passenger on United Flight 93 on 9/11 Todd Beamer was part of the group of passengers on United Airlines flight 93 who took control of the plane from the 9/11 hijackers and prevented what would have become the fourth attack on September 11TH. The plane ultimately crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We honor Mr. Beamer and his fellow passengers for their courage in the face of certain death. Texas History – What was the Killough Massacre?
The Killough Massacre was the bloodiest Indian attack in East Texas. On October 5, 1838, Indians attacked and killed eighteen (18) members of the extended Killough family who farmed in present-day northwestern Cherokee County, an area within the proposed Indian land grant.
