Texas History – Do You Know the State Motto of Texas?

Texans pride themselves in being friendly; thus the state motto, "Friendship." This motto was adopted by the forty-first State Legislature in February 1930. It was probably selected because the name Texas, or Tejas, was the Spanish translation of the Caddo Indian word meaning "friends" or "allies." Texas History – How Many Texans Served in World War I?

Many of the men served in the Thirty-Sixth Infantry Division and the Nineteenth Infantry Division. Texas History – Where was the U.S. Army Air Corps Formed?

Military aviation began in San Antonio in February 1910 when Lt. Benjamin Foulois arrived in Fort Sam Houston with seventeen (17) crates containing an airplane, accompanied by a number of student mechanics. Foulois, assigned to the aviation section of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, had taken three (3) flying lessons from Wilbur Wright. Because of the winter weather at the Signal Corps facility in College Park, Maryland, flight training was moved to Fort Sam Houston. Texas History – What Hurricane Caused the Most Property Damage in Texas?

On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike, a high Category 2 storm (110 mph), roared into Galveston and became the most destructive hurricane in Texas with $30 billion in damages and one of the top three in U.S. history.
