The Battle of San Jacinto resulted in Texas’ independence from Mexico, but that did not mean Mexico gave up her claim to Texas. It was not until the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed after the Mexican-American War in 1848 that Mexico relinquished her claim to Texas and the boundary between the United States and Mexico was established as the Rio Grande River.
