February 1, 1861. By a vote of 166 to 8, the Secession Convention adopted the Ordinance of Secession. Texas became the seventh state after Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana to sever its ties to the Union. Arkansas, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina later rounded out the eleven (11) states of the Confederate States of America.
