Remembering D-Day

June 6, 2019 by Stephen A. Mendel, Estate Planning Attorney

US assault troops arrive at Omaha Beach, June 6th 1944

Today, June 6th 2019, marks the 75th anniversary of the largest amphibious invasion in history known as Operation Neptune. We know this more commonly as D-Day. We would like to take a moment to remember all that was lost for the sake of our freedoms. We do so, that the estimated 160,000 soldiers who fought for our rights on this day do not pass from our memories as time too passes away from us. To all those who have served, thank you. May we never forget that the free soil we walk upon came … [Read more...] about Remembering D-Day

What Is an Adult Guardianship?

June 4, 2019 by Stephen A. Mendel, Estate Planning Attorney

None of us like to dwell on the fact that as we age, so do our parents. Eventually, the parent that once took care of you may need to be taken care of by you. This role reversal could be nothing more than a result of the natural aging process. However, it could also point to far more concerning issues. If you notice that your parent’s physical and/or mental health is continuing to deteriorate, it may be time to step in and take legal action. Doing so could prevent your parent from serious … [Read more...] about What Is an Adult Guardianship?

Kenneth Lay mugshot and Enron logo

There were many dark ironies shrouding the Enron scandal of the early 2000s and its founder and CEO, Ken Lay. May 17, 2019 by Stephen A. Mendel, Estate Planning Attorney

Ed White, walking in space

In 2018, over 50 years after the tragic death of NASA astronaut, Ed White, White’s two children, Bonnie and Ed III wrote a commentary piece for The Dallas Morning News about their father. With eloquence, they reflected on their father’s death, “What's been harder has been watching how people forget. Everyone remembers the landing, the triumph. But people tend to forget the cost. April 26, 2019 by Stephen A. Mendel, Estate Planning Attorney

“Death is very often referred to as a good career move.” The source of this disconcerting quote could not have known at the time that he was prophesying his own tragic legacy. Charles Hardin Holley, more famously known as Buddy Holly, was a man remembered for two things. The first was his role as an American Rock and Roll Legend known for pioneering the genre.
